Today, Governor Baker asked Massachusetts schools to continue remote learning through the rest of the school year. This announcement was not surprising to us given the daily news about the spread of COVID-19 in Massachusetts and the ongoing conversations among Massachusetts educators.

We are fully prepared to carry on with remote learning and to continue communicating with families about how your remote learning experience is going. While our first choice is always to be with our students in classrooms, we are happy that today’s technology can keep us connected. We are here for you throughout this time.

We are praying for health and safety for the entire BCA community.

UPDATE: Thursday, March 26, 2020

Governor Charlie Baker has mandated that all Massachusetts school buildings must remain closed through May 4, 2020. While our campus is closed, our learning continues! Bradford Christian Academy students have not missed a beat. They are engaging in the curriculum with their teachers through Zoom calls and Google Hangouts/Classroom. We are thrilled with the praise and positive comments from our parents and students! We are truly blessed to be able to ensure that learning and community are staying strong at BCA.

In addition, we are continuing to engage new parents and students who are interested in joining our school community. Although we cannot offer tours of our buildings at this time, our Director of Admissions, Marge Squire, is communicating with prospective parents about the teaching and learning that happens at our school. As all of us navigate the rapidly changing situation caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, I want to assure you that Bradford Christian Academy continues to live out its mission of providing a robust, Christian academic experience for its students. Our faculty and administration mobilized last week to ensure that our students would not miss a beat when it came to their studies.

On Monday, March 16, BCA suspended in-class instruction and moved to utilizing remote learning in all grades. Our upper school teachers are instructing their classes via on-line gatherings and communications. We have ensured that all upper school students have access to the technology they need to participate in this on-line instruction. Our lower school teachers have provided learning materials and work to their students in order to move forward in the curriculum. Lower school teachers will have ongoing communication with students and parents about the specifics of the learning plans.

We will continue this model of remote learning until April 7th, or as long as Governor Baker mandates. We will be following recommendations coming from federal, state, and local officials working in public health and education departments.

Whether you are a current BCA parent/student or you are new to learning about BCA, I’d like to share with you my profound gratitude and respect for all of our teachers and administrators who have pivoted with short notice to conduct on-line instruction and to support student learning at home. They are doing so with the same determination and dedication that has always characterized BCA teachers. They have worked evenings and weekends to prepare for the change in the learning environment. It is wonderful to watch our faculty’s commitment to our students carry on during this difficult time. This is what it means to be part of the BCA community.

I heard someone say recently that, “Social distancing is social solidarity.” As a school dedicated to service, BCA is demonstrating compassion for our more at-risk neighbors as we adjust to this period of remote learning. This is what Jesus calls us to do when He asks us to, “Love our neighbors as ourselves.” Through this shared commitment, we remain a united school community even as we are dispersed for the next few weeks.

We look forward to the passing of the virus when we can resume normal classes and activities. In the meantime, please be well and stay safe.
