As is our custom, on February 1, 2019, BCA will begin its re-enrollment process for the 2019-2020 school year. For the upcoming year, BCA’s Board of Directors sought to simplify the billing and collection of tuition and fees for both families and for BCA’s business office. This letter outlines these changes so that you will understand the charges when they appear on re-enrollment forms. The changes are as follows:
- Annual tuition rate will now include the curriculum and technology fees.Since BCA opened in 2004, all families with students in grades 5 through 12 have paid a $300 curriculum fee and a $300 technology fee in addition to tuition each year. These fees were billed separately from tuition during the summer. With this change, the fees will be built into tuition and as such will become part of the monthly payment plan used by most families.
- BCA will no longer charge separate fees for participation in athletics or arts programs. Up until this point, we have collected $150 for athletic participation and $90 for theater participation. Beginning next school year, a one-time participation fee of $150 will be built into tuition allowing students to participate in as many athletic and art programs as they wish with no additional charges. This approach supports our philosophy of requiring all high school students and strongly encouraging all middle school students to participate in at least one co-curricular activity of their choosing each year.
Each year the board of directors sets base tuition rates for the following year seeking to balance two main objectives:
- Remaining a Good Value. This year, the board’s finance committee performed a detailed analysis comparing BCA’s tuition to the tuition charged by 26 area schools across three categories: Christian, Catholic, and Private Secular. We learned that BCA’s tuition rates for this current year and for next year are below the tuition charged by other schools whose programs are most similar to BCA’s in each of the three categories studied.
- Providing Quality. BCA seeks to set rates that will provide for the quality staffing and programs that families count on us to provide. BCA values continuous improvement for all of its academic and co-curricular programs and the board takes the cost of planned improvements into account as it evaluates tuition rates.
For the sake of clarity when looking at next year’s bill, the table below shows a comparison of tuition & fees charged this year and the new all-inclusive tuition rates for next year. The “New Tuition Rate” shown is the number which will appear on the re-enrollment form. BCA will still charge separate fees for Homework Club, Tutoring, Field Trips, and Commencement (seniors only). Student clubs may also charge dues according to the mission of the club, and BCA will continue to collect third-party fees such as PSAT and Advanced Placement Testing.

*Students who participated in athletics and theater paid fees for both activities, so these charges vary by student.

Please bear in mind that we don’t want cost to be a barrier to your child attending BCA. BCA offers tuition assistance to families whose resources do not cover the cost of tuition. If you need tuition assistance to bridge the gap for your family, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We can direct you to the application process.
We are truly honored to partner with you in the education of your children. We look forward to serving you again next school year.
