Elementary School Grades K–5

As your child approaches lower school, you’re most likely thinking about the importance of building on the fundamental content he or she mastered in kindergarten. You’re probably excited to see all of the ways your child will grow as they tackle more challenging lessons and the continued learning  of social skills, such as active listening and following the rules. But you also want to be sure your child is in an environment where they are both nurtured and influenced in healthy ways by positive role models.

At Bradford Christian Academy, lower school students enjoy an advanced, developmentally-appropriate curriculum that establishes a solid academic foundation for middle school and beyond. They’re kept engaged through hands-on learning while also supported through individualized attention from dedicated teachers. BCA lower school students are guided through a Christ-centered, biblically-integrated course of study and a community of peers and mentors sharing the same Christian values.

OUR LOWER SCHOOL

Advanced Academics & Individualized Attention

BCA uses an individualized, hands-on learning approach that integrates Christian faith into all aspects of life and learning. As lower school classes are capped at 14 students, experienced teachers can spend time getting to know their students and how they learn best.

At the lower school level, core subject areas are:

  • Bible
  • Language Arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Writing

A Strong Foundation in Literacy

Literacy skills are critical as lower school students continue building on academic fundamentals. Language Arts lessons are based on the nationally-recognized Fundations curriculum and include daily instruction in phonics, independent reading, and reading aloud with a focus on comprehension.

An Emphasis on STEM

Lower school students love working together on science experiments and STEM building challenges. Content is mastered through lots of hands-on activities, such as games and projects like incubating and hatching chickens each spring.

Technology as a Tool

iPads and laptops help support everything from content mastery to differentiated instruction. Whether a student needs extra math practice or is listening to an audiobook, supervised technology use provides enrichment and assistance.

Learning Enrichment

The lower school core curriculum is complemented by Spanish (instruction begins in kindergarten at BCA), art, music, theater, and physical education. Students enjoy two recesses every day.

Character Education in a Christ-Centered Environment

Through biblical integration across the curriculum, BCA lower school students learn to value themselves and others as uniquely made and loved children of God. They learn from their teachers to model Christian values, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control. Annual service projects — writing letters to active-duty military or running a can drive to provide for the hungry — help instill the importance of caring for others.

After School Activities

Lower school students can participate in a variety of after school activities, including music lessons, theater, soccer shots, and BCA’s Homework Club, which is available Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
